July 09, 2012 BRIMFIELD — Like hundreds of riders in the Pan-Mass Challenge, Michael Beckerdite and his family have grappled with the challenge of seeing loved ones battle cancer.
After watching his sister-in-law and his wife's grandfather deal with cancer, Beckerdite decided to join the battle against the disease by participating in the PMC last year. Unfortunately, his Five Bridge Road home sustained significant damage during the tornado, and he elected to dedicate the remainder of the summer to recovery efforts and skip the PMC.
"The house needed a lot of repairs. Luckily it wasn't destroyed, but I wanted to focus on the repairs that needed to be made," said Beckerdite, who estimates that he and his wife paid about $50,000 to fix up their house.
