August 16, 2012 SOUTHBRIDGE — By a 4-3 vote, the School Committee rejected a Scott Lazo motion to fire Superintendent Eric Ely, with fellow member Lauren McLoughlin describing the idea as "ludicrous beyond all measure."
Lazo accused Ely of "mismanagement of the district" for proposing changes in school administration — primarily making the middle/high school a one-principal building. He criticized Ely's selection of Tammy Perreault for that job as "unqualified" and claimed he believes, "This summer has been a rollercoaster ride of deceit."
To McLoughlin, though, "the voters are ready" for the kinds of changes Ely is promoting at the schools and "were extremely clear in June" about that. She said she believes the "success of the administrative team is success for all of us."
