August 21, 2012 SOUTHBRIDGE — The Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) presented a "walkable community workshop" to town and public safety officials at the Jacob Edwards Library Friday, Aug. 17.
CMRPC Project Manager Jonathan Church led the workshop, which included to a presentation on the building blocks of a walkable community, and hour-long walking "audit" around town followed by a meeting to report findings and discuss how to increase the town's "walkability."
He said his group has presented the workshop in other towns in the state that have a high walking rate, in order to educate people about "the importance of complete streets." CMRPC also chose to study Southbridge because its high crash rate.
